Background:
Elizabeth Denver is an unjoined Trill, daughter of Caldonia Akaar Qui; host of one of the eldest symbionts on her homeworld. Caldonia, her husband and the symbiont she carried were killed when Elizabeth was only a child, victims of a terrorist attack on Rigel Prime by a fanatic Elaysian terrorist group trying to stop negotiations of a possible Klingon settlement being set-up in the Rigel System. She spent a month in foster-care before being adopted by a Terran couple, Jon Denver and Sally Denver, who lived on Janet's Planet, a colony originally settled by the Trill people but recently joined by a group of human colonists three decades prior.
Elizabeth never attended Starfleet Academy, instead studying at the local psychology institution where her adoptive father worked. In 2366 she was offered a position at Starfleet with the stipulation that she serve one year aboard a space station so that she could be trained and rated to serve aboard a starship. She actually spent two years aboard McKinley Station before taking an assignment aboard the USS BLISSEX and then transferring to the USS CAIRO in 2371, where she met an up-and-coming lieutenant named Marc Xavier. By 2372, when Marc was given command of the USS FELIX, Elizabeth was at the top of his crew request list.
