Background:
Michael McLoude is most recent in a family line to serve as a captain of a Starfleet vessel, dating back to Jason McLoude during the Romulan Wars. Michael grew up dreaming of the day he would enter Starfleet Academy. He was strange though for a McLoude. Usually members of the family line focused on either command sciences, or engineering. While Michael is a graduate of the School of Command Sciences from the academy, he has a minor in xeno-languages, and speaks several languages fluently other than Federation Standard English.
Michael's first posting was aboard the USS Alexie Leonov where he met, and befriended the then tactical officer of the ship, Allen Rikes. The setter took the Akita-inu under his wing and convinced him of his abilities in tactical and command field, the two canines becoming very close friends. Later Michael served for a short time as the Leonov's tactical officer before at Rikes' urging taking a position aboard the USS Gettysburg as her first officer.
After his service aboard the USS Gettysburg, Michael was given the opportunity of his dreams when Starfleet presented him command of the USS Galaxy. The Galaxy would be where Michael served till present times, and he has already turned down one promotion to flag rank to stay with his beloved ship and crew. He has no desires what so ever to advance any further in Starfleet. To him, the Galaxy is the highlight of his carrier, and has no wish to give her up for the flag. The old joke is that those ships that a McLoude has captained have to have their command chairs replaced, because they were damaged beyond repair when a McLoude was forced to leave them.

Character Notes:
Michael is odd for many Starfleet officers in that he actually has a personal library. Not simply datafiles stored aboard the Galaxy's computer bank, but actual hard copy books from many eras and civilizations. His collection is large for that of a non-scholar, and his ready room is has three complete bookshelves filled with texts from Earth, Vulcan, and even a few Klingon texts. His most prized possession is an original copy of the Federalist Papers given to him by his wife on their first wedding anniversary.
He is a devoted husband and father and had the great joy of presiding over his own son's wedding. He takes pride in all the accomplishments of his children and encourages them all, be it for Chaser's entrance into Starfighter Command, Daniella's passion for science, Anton's enamorment with how a ship is put together, or Angel's desire to be a doctor.
Michael is cut very much from the same mold as his mentor and best friend, Admiral Allen Rikes. He is honorable, and will stand strong on any decision, though he admits he is more scientist at heart than his old friend. He is a capable diplomat as all Starfleet captains are expected to be but most enjoys missions of a scientific and exploratory nature. Often times he enjoys joining in on scientific 'round sessions' with the 'blue shirts' of his crew. This can be a little unsettling to new off duty crew members who have found themselves with their captain suddenly sitting at their table smiling and talking with them asking questions on their specialties in the forward lounge, his signature 'USS Galaxy' mug filled with black coffee in paw. There are rumors that he uses these sessions to gauge whether a new crewfur is worthy to serve aboard the Galaxy among those most rattled by their first visit from the captain, but most officers agree that it is simply their captain's curiosity and nothing more.
