Background:
Odell's childhood was one marked by separation of his parents, both of whom served in Starfleet. His father, Cyrano Stavros, served as an astrophysicist with sciences. Odell's mother, Eva Stavros, served in Starfleet security. Despite their nearly constant separation, Cyrano and Eva both managed to take marginally good care of Odell. However, due to the nature of Cyano's work, Odell was never quite as close to his father as he was to his mother.
As Odell was closer to his mother, he spent much more time shipside with her than with his father. Thus, most of his education during his childhood was in the schools and holodecks of those various ships. During this time, Eva Stavros was able to give Odell basic skills with paw-to-paw combat and marksmanship. While his education was not lacking, the short tours his mother served did little to aid him in his social life. Odell had few, although close, friends during his childhood years. Emotional needs also suffered some, as Odell's first childhood crush did not take place until he was twelve. The relationship crush only lasted a few weeks, as Odell had to move away soon after.
When Odell was old enough, he decided to take the test and enter into Starfleet academy. Odell spent a few months studying for the test and was barely able to make a sufficient score to be accepted. Given the small number of choices he had, Odell decided to enter into Starfleet security.
Odell's first year (2369) at the academy was filled with one major event: his first serious relationship. Unfortunately, the girl would washout during their sophomore year at Starfleet Academy. It was during that year in which Odell likewise joined Starfleet Academy's drill team. Between practicing for the team and his own studies, Odell left little time for any further relationships. Odell managed to pass through junior year satisfactorily, but he never was the model cadet. During his senior year, Odell was promoted to drill master due to his dedication and skill. It was the only distinctive mark on his record from Starfleet Academy.
Odell’s first tour of duty was at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards on Mars. The first six months of his tour were filled with a standard schedule and typical duties left to a fresh ensign in Starfleet. Odell found himself on numerous security details, inspections, and the like. During this period, Odell became aware of an opening that would soon be available with the Martian Honor Guard. Throughout the latter half of his first year, Odell would spend his time drilling himself and practicing to compete for the opening slot on the team. He wanted to be ready for the try-outs when the came about.
At the start of the second year of Odell’s first tour of duty, he submitted the application package to fill the available opening. He was one of seventeen Starfleet officers to volunteer for the position. Two month’s time was given to allow for practice before a board convened to watch each candidate and judge their performance; Odell spent as much time as he could during this period working on his technique and skill.
The board called Odell, as well as each other volunteer, before it one at a time. They would be asked a series of questions related to their desire to join the team before being asked to perform a series of simple tasks prior to the selected routine. None of the volunteers performed the entire set perfectly. In the end, the board selected Odell as the one to fill the slot after much consideration of the other candidates.
Odell’s years with the Martian Honor Guard took him to many places across the galaxy, both for exhibition and competition. Though he started as the junior member, Odell’s dedication kept him with the team when others were retiring and transferring to other assignments within their chosen career fields. However, Odell was not fortunate enough to become the drillmaster of the team; other events would prevent such an achievement.

Character Notes:
Odell is best described as stubborn and boastful. He has spent several years with the strictly regimented Martian Honor Guard and the complimentary color guard. The strictness of the environment now permeates nearly every aspect of his life, excluding only his closest, personal relationships (close friends, interests, etc).
Being boastful is a side effect of the prestige status that is associated with being a member of the honor guard. Odell will quite often look down on junior officers and even some of equal rank. This fact is worse for those likewise in security positions, despite the fact he is fairly green at some of the duties entailed with the security position he will now have to fill.
