The Emperor was once a wizened Jedi who held the highest possible position on the Jedi Council. Rumors persist that this grand master was destroyed and replaced by a clone; such rumors are considered treasonous and are very rarely voiced within the confines of the Galactic Empire.
As head of the Reformed Sith Order, the Emperor wields supreme power in the galaxy. He is referred to as the Avatar by the Sith, who believe that the Emperor is the personification of the Dark Side of the Force (a few fringe groups of Sith believe that the Avatar is actually the Dark Side in a mortal body, rather than its mere personification; such groups are rare and largely ignored by the rest of the Sith populace, who do not see their leader as a god).
The Emperor is wise and cunning and has retained his throne despite many attempts on his life from within and without his regime. The Emperor, who is a diminuitive fennec fox, is considered to be so powerful that no one even dares to mention his name to his face. Those who do refer to the Emperor by his former name generally find themselves reduced to becoming a scorch mark on the floor of his throne room, and some rumors state that the floor of that room is now black because of the sheer number of lives the Emperor has snuffed out there.
