XP7 Rifle

From TFC Galactopedia

Beginning life as the 1.21 GW (gigawatt) component of the stun-bursting BlasTech Type-8 Objective Individual Combat Disruptor (OICD), the XP7 Lightweight Modular Carbine System represents the state-of-the-art in lo-MAG3 Galactic Alliance assault weapons. Developed as a joint operation between the BlasTech Corporation and the UFP Special Services Office of Project Manager for Soldier Weapons located on Andoria, the XP7 Heavy Combat Rifle is intended to establish a common standard among the New Republic and United Federation arms of the Alliance beginning as early as StarDate 54789.3. Once adopted, the XP7 Carbine will replace the aging E-11 and Type-III family of weapons, which have been in service longer than any previous service rifle in either arm of the Alliance. At 2.2 kilograms, the XP7 Carbine will be up to 20% lighter than an E-11/DA and yet offer features and performance unavailable currently in any assault rifle in the known galaxies.

As a direct development of the separable OICD module, the Carbine will share a high degree of common parts and training and maintenance procedures to lessen the required support for the “family” of XP7 weapons. Being developed are four XP7 variants, which include a baseline carbine, a silent-pulse sharpshooter variant, an automatic rifle variant, and the ultra-compact carbine variant. A unique feature of the XP7 modular weapon system is the ability to easily and quickly reconfigure the weapon from one variant to the other to meet changing mission requirements.

This modularity includes the exchange of interchangeable assembly groups such as the focus barrel, handguard, lower receiver, F/F ID sensors and sighting system with removable carrying handle. In addition and in parallel, the new XP320 quick detachable single-shot grenade launcher can be easily added to the XP7 by the user in the field without tools. Internally the XP7 employs triple-redundant tibanna-cooled power cells and a .99657 nadion-hardened dual-layered boronite refraction chamber that reduces particle erosion by as much as 70% over the most advanced Federation phaser rifles. This system affords the weapon a continuous firing time of more than 245 standard hours on setting 16 without recharge and over 9,000 hours service life with ultimate operator safety in the event of a chamber breach occurrence. A BGG-9 auto-mod chip allows for optimized (or rotating) beam frequency modulation and regenerative particle flux to ensure weapon operation in even the most intense interference fields.

The XP7 has fully ambidextrous operating controls to include a centrally located charging handle that doubles as an ambidextrous forward assist when required, ambidextrous powerpack release, safety/selector control and redundant thumbprint analysis grip to ensure the weapon can only be fired by authorized persons. The operating controls allow the operator to keep the firing hand on the pistol grip and the weapon in the firing position at all times while the non-firing hand operates the charging handle or powerpack during loading and clearing. Major components of the weapon are produced from high-strength durasteel reinforced cores coated with tritanium skin materials that can be molded in almost any color to include OD green, desert tan, arctic white, urban blue, brown, grey and basic black. Surfaces on the XP7 that interface with the operator are fitted with non-slip materials to increase comfort and operator retention. The weapon can be fired in adjustable beam, rapid-pulse, wide-beam and wide-pulse modes at anywhere from the low stun level to heavy vaporize.

Special integral flush mounted attachment points are located on the handguard and receiver to allow the quick attachment of additional targeting devices. The XP7 attachment points do not add additional weight, bulk and cost to the host weapon, and will accept FMIL-STD-2562 and E11-2B-STD adapters to allow for the use of current in-service accessories. The attachment points for the standard multi-function integrated Friend/Foe identification system allow multiple mounting positions and insure 100% zero retention even after the system is removed and remounted. The XP7 F/F system includes the latest bioscan and radiolytic marker detection capability exceeding that of the current Type-IIIB2, Type-II21 and Compression Phaser Rifles. The XP7 will be fully compatible with future Alliance Soldier technology and components.

The XP7 Carbine will be produced and assembled both at the Altris-III Factory Moon and BlasTech Industries supply bases. The unit cost of the XP7 will be less than that of the current E-11/DA and will guarantee the Alliance soldier uncompromising performance far exceeding that of current in-service Carbines.
